1 IMAGING IN TRAUMA: HOW TO PLAN INVESTIGATIONS FOR THE INJURED PATIENT
      Cocks, Robert A.
2000 7144  This is a hardbound text of radiologic application in trauma. "A description of safe and effective use of imaging techniques in the injured patient is provided. "The trainee in radiology, surgery, or emergency medicine is an appropriate audience for this work.

Authors represent senior members of the emergency medicine faculty and a radiologist at a major medical center in Hong Kong. "Eighteen chapters and two appendixes are included in the 250 pages of this handsome book. In initial chapters general concepts regarding imaging techniques are described, while the largest portion of the book is a description of radiologic imaging for various anatomic regions. A brief collection of education issues is described in the concluding chapters. Black & White illustrations. Appendixes contain the standard radiographic measurements and a table of dates for ossification centers. Chapters are concise with key points highlighted on the initial page. Subheadings are divided by texture of type. Excellent use is made of black-and-white line drawings, which reproduce well. Many radiographs are also included. For the most part, these reproduce with adequate quality. Each chapter includes a brief reference list with primary and secondary references. Many references date to within five to ten years from publication of this work. Chapters are grouped by intellectual content in the table of contents. A brief index allows access to major clinical topics. "The strength of this book lies in organization of injury patterns to specific body regions according to mechanism. The black-and-white drawings provided, for the most part, are excellent. The North American audience will be unable to use some of the guidelines presented asavailable imaging techniques in North America differ significantly from those described by the authors.
