2003 7764 Everyone knows that polar bears and seals just aren't friends--everyone, that is, except Lars the little cub and Robby the seal. Now, the two pals have set out to teach their families a gentle lesson in friendship and tolerance. Their friendship is tested, however, after they save Robby's parents from being eaten by a trio of hungry polar bears. Parents of both species inform the youngsters that they cannot be friends-but this cannot keep them apart. Lars and Robby come up with a scheme by which the seals provide bears with fish to eat. Because the seals love to catch fish and the bears love to eat fish, all of the adults are happy, and Lars and Robby are free to pursue their friendship. Although some may find the solution overly simplistic, the story's beautiful illustrations and appealing characters should keep most young readers happy.
