It leaves these women feeling trapped, helpless, & alone. But there is a way out - & not necessarily by leaving ones partner. Based on proven techniques developed in Dr. Olshans workshop. FROM THE CRITICS Library Journal Olshan's book has more in common with such self-help titles as Melody Beattie's Co-Dependent No More (Hazelden, 1987) or the books of John Bradshaw than with personal finance books. He himself is a practicing psychologist, and he cites examples based on a support group that he leads. He seeks to help women (often referred to as ``these women'') develop self-esteem, assertiveness, and skills that will make them more equal partners in relationships where they are financially dependent on a man. The title refers to the fact that some women may have material goods galore but are not actually involved with family finances and hence are more like possessions themselves. The advice is certainly competent, but it is somewhat dry. Some mention of free or nonprofit support groups and a list of recommended reading would have enhanced this title, which emphasizes paid psychological help.
