THE DICTIONARY OF BLUE AND WHITE PRINTED POTTERY, 1780-1880 (DICTIONARY OF BLUE AND WHITE PRINTED POTTERY, 1780-1880 SER., VOL. 2) Coysh, A. W.; Henrywood, R. K. 02869176 Hard Cover. Brand New/Brand New Book Jacket. Designed as a comprehensively cross-referenced companion to the original Dictionary, this second volume includes over 1,000 new or extended entries. These cover many previously unrecorded patterns, recent attributions, newly discovered design sources and a significant number of additional manufacturers and retailers. Some of the more interesting wares after the original deadline of 1880 have also been included. The social history behind the potters’ choice of subject is of considerable interest and, wherever possible, entries include details of the people or events which inspired unidentified patterns or their titles. One new feature is an Appendix illustrating unidentified patterns, important marked examples of which may yet be unearthed by a diligent collector. Interest in these wares has increased dramatically in recent years and the enthusiasm shown for ‘blue and white’ continues to grow. This second volume of the Dictionary, produced in the same attractive format as the first and with some 450 illustrations, 28 in full colour, will immediately become an essential acquisition for collectors, dealers and auctioneers alike. To sum it up: Comprehensively cross-referenced to Volume I of the Dictionary includes over 1,000 new or extended entries; contains a new Appendix illustrating unidentified patterns; an essential compani on volume to the original Dictionary which has become a best seller in both the U.K. and North America. .About the author Bill Coysh: Worked for many years in the West Region of the BBC as producer a nd programme planner, starting the radio programme Talking About Antiques.
