MOSTLY GHOSTLY Zorn, Steven 1991 53015 No matter how far you pull the bedcovers over your head, they will not protect you from this ghastly collection of ghoulish encounters. Mostly Ghostly joins together some of literature's greatest authors of the fantastic and supernatural, including Edith Nesbit and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Editor Steven Zorn adapts these classic chillers for children so they remain short but scary--allowing young minds to fly off into a land of haunted castles, headless horsemen, and spooky villains. A dash of humor and colorful drawings make this a light-hearted but dastardly compendium of gore. (Ages 9-12) --Naomi Gesinger --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. From Publishers Weekly Just in time for the summer campfire season, a new collection of ghost stories is unveiled. Eight gruesome tales by such noted authors as Ambrose Bierce, Washington Irving and Edith Nesbit highlight a book sure to raise goosebumps. Zorn's adaptations have a breezy style that unifies the stories, while the spooky atmosphere and scary descriptions encourage reading aloud. Bradley's loosely sketched ink drawings, awash in eerie dark paint, depict appropriately bony creatures, bulging eyeballs or severed body parts with a farcical air, avoiding the overtly grotesque. Unfortunately, the text on a few of the pages all but disappears into the dark mist of the artwork and is difficult to read. Not much innovation here, but a satisfying, spine-tingling read nonetheless. Ages 7-10. Courage Books 1-56138-033-4 / 9781561380336 Hardcover Very Good Condition Philadelphia, Pa. Price:
