 1. JUSTICE : A PETER DECKER AND RINA LAZARUS NOVEL   Kellerman, Faye
New York, NY, U.S.A.: Morrow/Avon, 1995
Hard Cover. Brand New/As New Book Jacket. 6 x 9. Kellerman's latest Pete Decker/Rina Lazarus novel will join its predecessors at or near the top of most best-seller lists. The story begins with a teen prom queen who has been found dead in a fleabag motel, apparently strangled after a night of drink, drugs, and kinky sex ... Handsome, clean-cut Chris Whitman has confessed to the killing, but LAPD detective Decker is uncomfortable with the easy resolution of the case and the way things just don't add up. Chris, the son of Mob boss Joe Donatti, is way too cool, too smooth, and too sure of himself. Evidence taken from the dead prom queen's body shows she had sex with at least one other person besides Whitman on the night she died. ... And sweet, innocent Teresa McLaughlin is in love with Whitman, but there's more to the romance than the usual teen hormonal attraction. So, despite his superiors' objections, Pete digs into the case more deeply and finds, to his horror, what really happened. Although the plot occasionally veers off into improbability, Kellerman keeps the suspense turned to high from beginning to end, and readers will find themselves thoroughly engaged and, as usual with Kellerman's books, well entertained. ..388 pages PUBLISHED AT Twenty Three dollars.

 2. SANCTUARY (A PETER DECKER AND RINA LAZARUS MYSTERY)   Kellerman, Faye
Grand Haven, Michigan, U.S.A. Brilliance Audio 1994 Audio Cassette Program As New
ABOUT THE BOOK Sanctuary (A Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus Mystery) ANNOTATION A diamond dealer and his family vanish. Honey is married to a New York diamond dealer, but as Peter and Rina investigate, it becomes clear that the mystery involves all the world's diamond centers from Los Angeles to Jerusalem. Thus Peter and Rina begin globe-trotting to uncover the truth. FROM THE PUBLISHER A diamond dealer and his entire family have mysteriously disappeared from their sprawling Los Angeles manor, leaving the estate undisturbed and their valuables untouched. Investigating detective Decker is stumped-faced with a perplexing case riddled with dead ends. Then a second dealer is found murdered in manhattan, catapulting Decker and his wife, Rina, into a hearstopping maze of murder and intrigue that spans the globe. . . .only to touch down dangerously in their own backyard. FROM THE CRITICS Publishers Weekly Orthodox Jewish housewife Rina Lazarus and her husband-and convert to Judaism-LAPD Detective Sergeant Peter Decker (last seen in Grievous Sin) have their hands full in their seventh adventure. While Peter and his partner, Det. Marge Dunn, investigate the disappearance of prosperous diamond dealer Arik Yalom, his wife and their teenage sons, Rina plays hostess to Honey Klein, visiting from New York with her children and obviously escaping problems with her Hasidic diamond-dealer husband, Gershon. When the bodies of the older Yaloms are found buried on a local mountainside, their sons are seen as possible suspects or potential victims fleeing for their lives. The Yalom case leads Peter to L.A.'s diamond center; to elegant Kate Milligan, a power in the South African diamond trade; and eventually to Israel, with Rina along as interpreter. After Gershon Klein is found dead, Honey and her kids vanish too, further complicating this overrich brew. Scouring the environs of Jerusalem in their search for the missing Yalom boys, turning up bomb plots as they go, Peter and Rina get a fix on the killer and take an inside look at some Israeli institutions. The multitude of plot threads and characters, however, may trip up some readers. Mystery Guild selection; Doubleday Book Club alternate; author tour. (Oct.) Library Journal Still living in Los Angeles, Sgt. Peter Decker and his Jewish wife, Rina, work on a series of murders that take them to Israel by way of the international diamond trade.  4. STREET DREAMS   Kellerman, Faye
New York Warner Books, Incorporated 2003 Hardcover As New 9.22x6.34x1.40 in. 1.41 lbs.
ABOUT THE BOOK Street Dreams FROM OUR EDITORS The Barnes & Noble Review Bestselling author Faye Kellerman intertwines police procedural and personal plots in a double-barreled mystery featuring Detective Peter Decker and his daughter, Cindy, an up-and-coming young LAPD officer. This time out, Peter takes a supporting role in two investigations -- both involving issues that blur the lines between right and wrong. Peter's wife, Rina Lazarus, is determined to look into her grandmother's long-ago murder in Germany and to find a way to right past wrongs. And Cindy is hot on the trail of justice in a very current crime -- pursuing a desperate and dangerous search for the mother of an abandoned baby she rescued from a Hollywood dumpster. Peter draws on his extensive investigative expertise to provide backup for the two most important women in his life, as each of them follows her own perilous path to the truth. Faye Kellerman again weaves a tapestry of crime and punishment in which racial and religious issues have a powerful impact on human relationships, political issues, and criminal investigations. Sue Stone FROM THE PUBLISHER While on routine patrol, LAPD Officer Cindy Decker rescues a newborn abandoned in an alley Dumpster. But she can't call it a night until she sees the infant safe in a hospital, cared for by a professional - in this case a male nurse with intense eyes and lots of charm. Now the hunt is on for the mother, more than likely a scared and desperate girl in need of medical attention. Armed with advice from her overworked father, Detective Peter Decker, Cindy searches through the mean streets of her inner-city Hollywood district, following a trail filled with helpless people and violent gangs who prey on the innocent. With each new lead, the twisted journey gets darker, battering Cindy's complex relationships and endangering her very life. When Decker and Decker join forces, can this edgy duo put personal issues aside to catch a vicious culprit before he strikes again? SYNOPSIS From bestselling author Faye Kellerman comes a new Peter Decker-Rina Lazarus novel in which Decker teams up with his daughter Cindy to solve a shocking crime. FROM THE CRITICS Publishers Weekly Bestseller Kellerman's latest Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus novel (after 2002's Stone Kiss) will please her fans, but is unlikely to make new converts. When Cindy Decker, Peter's LAPD officer daughter (who had a big role in 2000's Stalker), finds an abandoned baby in a dumpster, she sets out to track down the developmentally disabled mother, suspecting that the child may have been the product of a rape. Her fellow officers discourage her efforts, while an attempt on her life sparks conflict with an alarmed Peter. Romance occupies Cindy, an observant Jew, as much as her professional career. Conveniently, the sexy and caring black pediatric nurse who cares for the baby turns out to be an observant Ethiopian Jew who is instantly smitten with her. Other coincidences abound, including Cindy's witnessing of a fatal hit-and-run that may be connected with the sexual assault she alone believes occurred. A minor subplot concerning the murder of stepmother Rina's grandmother in 1920s Munich simply peters out. Details of Jewish religious observance amount to superficial trappings. Cindy mentions dealing with an earlier trauma through therapy, but the author never lets the reader in on any of her sessions. The solution to the crime comes almost as an afterthought in this overlong book. Others, and Kellerman herself, have done a better job of melding a mystery plot with the challenges of maintaining Jewish identity in the modern world. 3-city author tour.
