Author(s) Kvasnosky, Laura McGee Title WHAT SHALL I DREAM? Softcover, HARDCOVER: Hardcover Book Condition As New Approximate Size 20 x 20 x 20 inches Publisher New York Dutton Juvenile 1996 ISBN Number 0-525-45207-9 / 9780525452072 Seller ID 40785 From School Library Journal Kindergarten-Grade 2a: Every night, Prince Alexander worries about what to dream. To help him, the King summons Dream Brewers from the River of Stars, the Queen sends for Dream Weavers from the cliffs above the sea, and Grandfather suggests Dream Sweepers from the desert. At last, it is Alexander's nursemaid who has the answer: the boy must discover his dreams himself. Lovely, delicate artwork, with peaches, light blues, greens, and golds, match the imaginative text perfectly and bring it to life. Children will delight in following the antics of the Prince's pet monkey and dog, who trail after him everywhere. The magical beings are beautifully conceived, iridescent and sprinkled with stardust. The difference between the child's real life and his nighttime adventures is underlined by the excellent layout: scenes depicting daytime in the castle are framed, while the illustrations of the dreams spill freely across double pages, unframed and unrestrained. A lovely bedtime story. Despite the well-intentioned efforts of the king, queen, and others, only Prince Alexander can find the dreams that are right for him.
